Brussels was first inhabited by the Romans and then by the Franks in 7th century A.D. The art was at it top during the 15th century and due to this many stately mansions were built. It was founded in the year 979 but the according to the stories it is believed that it had been situated at the end of the 6th century.
Until the end of the 14th century; Brussels had become a thriving city. The economic recession took place which lasts for 50 years but Brussels survived and started producing luxury goods.

In July 21st 1831, the first king of the Belgium King Leopold I ascended the throne and Brussels became the capital of the Belgium. Then a period of rebuilding the city of Brussels started, leading to enormous buildings to build. The city walls were demolished which allowed renewal and considerable expansion.
Brussels witnessed considerable damage during the Second World War but after that it continued developing. Two semi independent regions were emerged, Flanders and Wallonia with Brussels becoming a district with its own government.
By the end of the World War II, Brussels became an important centre for politics, NATO established it’s headquarter in 1967 and it also accommodated many EU institutions making it home to many international organizations.
